How to plan one sourcing day at Yiwu International Trade City District 2

District 2 is the hardware and appliances building of the Yiwu International Trade City: bags and umbrellas below, tools and electrical goods in the middle, factory halls above. Here is how to cover it in one day.

Yiwu markets: Yiwu International Trade City District 2

Arriving and setting your route

District 2 opened in October 2004 and covers 483 mu, with a floor area of more than 600,000 square metres. Over 8,000 booths are run by more than 10,000 business households, stacked across five trading floors.

The trades are stacked in a deliberate order: bags, umbrellas and rainwear on floor 1; locks, electrical products, hardware tools and fittings, and vehicles on floor 2; hardware for kitchen and bathroom, small appliances, telecom equipment, electronic instruments and clocks on floor 3; a factory direct-sales centre with regional halls on floor 4; and the foreign trade sourcing service centre on floor 5.

Confirm current trading hours with the market or your suppliers before travelling, and plan the day around two floors rather than five. In this building the cartons get heavier as you go up, so the order you walk matters as much as the distance.

The morning: soft goods first, or straight to tools

Start on floor 1 with bags and umbrellas if soft goods lead your list, because that floor is the easiest to walk quickly and the goods are the lightest to carry. Booths cluster by sub-category, so note booth numbers as you go rather than doubling back.

If hardware leads instead, go straight to floor 2 and give it the morning: locks, electrical products, tools and vehicle goods reward slow walking, because small specification differences between neighbouring booths are where the price differences live.

Lunch and the sample handover

The central hall holds a tourism shopping centre and a market development history exhibition hall across its second and third floors, and food outlets sit in and around the building. The east annex gathers trader services: business administration and tax offices, a police station, banks, dining, logistics, post and telecom.

Use the lunch break as the sample checkpoint. Photograph every sample with its booth number, log it, and hand any collection task to your agent with a written list rather than a verbal one.

The afternoon: appliances and the factory halls

Spend the afternoon on floor 3 if appliances and instruments are yours, or go up to floor 4, which holds a factory direct-sales centre alongside boutique halls including Hong Kong, Korean merchants, Sichuan, Anhui, Jiujiang and Hetian halls. The regional halls are useful when a category has a recognised place of origin and you want producers rather than resellers.

Floor 5 houses the foreign trade sourcing service centre, which exists for exactly the questions that arise late in a buying day: documents, export procedure and where to hand a load. Raise paperwork questions there rather than guessing.

Closing the day: consolidation

Before leaving, group purchases by supplier, label each lot and record carton counts and weights. Hardware and appliance loads are denser than the soft goods of other districts, so weight discipline at the collection point prevents the disputes that are hardest to prove later.

The path from booth to port is set out in our district consolidation guide, and the core consolidation guide covers forwarder paperwork that applies in any market. Leave with photographs of every sealed carton and agreed dates for balances.

Trading hours, layouts and stall line-ups change; confirm with the market or your supplier before you travel.
