Yiwu International Trade City District 1: getting your goods out

A day of buying in District 1 ends with a less glamorous task: moving toys, jewellery and crafts from booths to a collection point, then to a forwarder, then onto a ship or a train. Here is the market-specific path.

Yiwu markets: Yiwu International Trade City District 1

From booth to collection point

Purchases in District 1 rarely leave from the booth itself. The usual path is booth to a market collection area, where goods from many stalls are gathered, checked against lists and packed into one load.

Label every lot with the booth number, your item code and the carton count at the moment of purchase. When the collector arrives, reconcile against that label: carton counts, weights and a photograph of each sealed carton. A weighing habit is worth copying from experienced buyers, because short weight is the dispute that is hardest to prove later.

Records that hold up

Photograph goods at three moments: packed at the booth, sealed at the collection point and stacked before handover. If a claim ever arises, the photographs locate the failure at a specific handover rather than somewhere in transit.

For quality checks before shipment, sampling by a recognised plan is the norm; ISO 2859-1 is the standard most inspectors work to. Inspecting at the collection point, before the load is sealed, is cheaper than inspecting at the port.

Forwarder, port and the rail option

From the collection area your load goes to a freight forwarder, who books it either as sea freight through Ningbo-Zhoushan or, for some destinations, on the China-Europe freight trains run under the Yixinou service. The choice is set by destination, season and how fast the goods must arrive, not by the district you bought in.

Give the forwarder a packing list per supplier, because mixed loads are cleared and insured per lot. The core consolidation guide covers the documents that decide who gets paid; this page only adds what is specific to the market floor.

What the market path changes

Two things are specific to buying here. First, the sheer number of small lots: with more than 10,000 booths in one building, a single buying day can put many suppliers into one load, so labelling discipline matters more than in a two-factory shipment.

Second, the building's own services: the east annex hosts a sourcing service centre for foreign-trade enterprises, and cars can drive directly to floors 2 to 4, which shortens the distance between purchase and pickup. Use both, and keep the reconciliation steps above regardless.

Collection-point practices, service centres and carrier options change; confirm current arrangements with the market, your forwarder and the operator before shipping.
